Vitascope Projector Kit That Plays Film
The Vintage Vitascope is a wooden movie projector kit that works once it is built. Assemble the 183 laser cut wooden pieces, thread the film loop, turn the crank, and a classic Chaplin black and white reel plays onto the wall in front of it.
There are no batteries and no mains power anywhere in this model. The crank drives a small generator that lights the projection lamp, so the brightness of the picture tracks how steadily you turn the handle.
How the Wooden Projector Works
Inside the case, a gear train links the crank to both the generator and the film transport, so light and film advance together. Set the assembled Vitascope on a flat surface about 30 cm from a pale wall, dim the room, and turn the handle at a steady pace for a clear picture.
