Steampunk Airship With Built In LED Glow
This steampunk airship is a 628 piece 3D wooden puzzle that assembles into a zeppelin on a carved cradle stand. Laser cut basswood forms the hull ribs, gondola and propeller housings, and panels of specialty paper stretch between them so the hidden LED strip glows through the skin once the model is finished.
The kit comes in two colourways, an ivory hull and a dark navy hull, both with the same brass toned mechanical detailing. Assembled it measures 26.5 cm long, 14 cm deep and 17 cm tall on the stand, which fits a bookshelf, desk or display cabinet.
628 Piece Basswood Build
Pieces press out of pre cut basswood sheets and join with slot and peg connections, so no glue is required for the structure. A full build runs about 6 to 7 hours and is rated 4 out of 5 for difficulty, which puts it with the advanced 3D wooden puzzles rather than a first kit.
The frame goes together first, then the outer plating and the paper panels, then the gondola and propellers. Working in that order keeps the internal wiring channel accessible while the hull is still open.

Display and Gift Ideas
Lit from inside, the airship works as a bedside or shelf lamp as much as a model, and the stand keeps it stable next to books or other 3D wooden puzzles. Steampunk and dieselpunk collectors tend to display it at eye level so the paper panels read as backlit portholes.

I really enjoyed making this and I am delighted with the result! NB the instructions did not mention what batteries or cells to use but I emailed and got the answer swiftly. For info it takes 3 (not 4) LR 44 or AG 13 cells.
This is a great kit and the instructions actions are very thorough. It is a challenging model and is best suited for experienced builders.

It was by far the best kit for assembly that I've put together! The dimensional tolerancing was outstanding. I did not have to 'force' a single peg / slot fit, nor did I have to sand a single one. The instructions were very good. The end result is an awesome looking dirigible. Very happy with the end result.
While this is my first wooden model, it certainly won't be my last. I've always struggled with painting classic models, but loved the fun of putting them together. Maybe that's why I loved Lego and such growing up? This scratches that itch quite well. I've definitely learned a lot during building this (patience, light tough, less glue than you think, and watch out for every piece) but it's been a super fun journey. I only lost two pieces during the whole process (one wooden, one paper facia)...
Love this kit. These are beautifully made, the assembly instructions are clear and well illustrated and the final result is really pleasing. What I really appreciated is that many spare parts are included, in case you lose or damage a part. I’m looking forward to making more of these kits.

This is a fantastic product. I will say, the assembly requires some patience as it can be a bit challenging. However, I actually enjoyed the process and found it very rewarding once it was finished.

This Airship steampunk 3d puzzle is a fanstastic model to build. I have built more than 50 of these wooden "puzzles" and this was among the most challenging and the most rewarding.
Looks great when finished but found most 'plugs' needed gue to stay in place and the wood of the construction not as robust as expected as with your other models. Evenso, very enjoyable to put together.
A little harder to assemble than expected but surprisingly satisfying and look amazing

Fun to put together. Assembly takes longer than advertised but the end product looks great. A few places in the step by step instructions could be better but overall the work wasn't hard just tedious. Well worth the expense and effort. It would have been nice, however, if the instruction manual would say the type of batteries necessary to power the light string (A13 or LR44)
Looking forward to seeing the finished result.
The most complected to date! My advice to others is if you are going to do a lot of these then invest in some additional tools like modelers drill with grinding bits as a minor fettling is made simple.
Always enjoy building these. Good fun and calming.
