Running V-Twin Motorcycle Engine Model
The FG-VT9 is a working internal combustion engine, not a static display piece. It burns real gasoline, fires on a spark plug through a CDI igniter and spins from 1350 rpm at idle up to 8000 rpm, so the 9cc V-twin behaves like the motorcycle engine it is scaled from.
How the V-Twin Is Built
- Valve train: OHV layout with a bottom camshaft and pushrods, two valves per cylinder, independent intake and exhaust
- Cylinders: twin cylinders set at a 45 degree V angle with deep cooling fins for air cooling
- Body: anodised aluminium case machined by CNC, chrome plated rocker covers and copper exhaust elbows
- Fuelling: single carburettor with a responsive throttle feeding both cylinders
Running It Safely
- Fuel is gasoline pre-mixed with two stroke oil at 25:1, the same mix a small petrol engine uses
- Starting is done with an electric drill starter powered by a 2S or 3S lithium battery
- Recommended for ages 14 and up, with adult supervision, and only run in a ventilated space away from anything flammable
- The engine runs hot and the exhaust elbows stay hot after shutdown, so follow the manual before every run
