Wooden Cello Music Box That Plays Chopin

This cello music box is a 3D mechanical wooden puzzle you assemble yourself, then wind to hear Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 in E flat. The cello body is left open, so the movement, comb and gear train stay visible while the melody plays.
The kit is cut from plywood and fits together with mortise and tenon joints, so no glue and no power tools are needed. Assembled it stands 18.5 cm tall on a base carved as a stack of antique books, sized for a desk, bookshelf or piano top.
No Glue Wooden Puzzle Assembly

Every part is laser cut to a press fit, so the pieces slot together and hold without adhesive. Most builders finish the model in 2 to 3 hours, which makes it a manageable weekend project for a first mechanical wooden puzzle as well as for experienced model builders.
Antique Book Base and Vintage Detailing

The base is shaped as a pile of old books with European engraving detail across the covers and spines. The design references cellist Pablo Casals, and the vintage styling lets the finished music box sit as study decor or shelf decor rather than reading as a toy.
Chopin Nocturne Music Movement

Winding the clockwork drives a pinned cylinder against a steel comb to play Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 in E flat. The mechanism is mechanical throughout, with no batteries, cables or speakers involved in producing the sound.
Wood and Fit

The model uses eco friendly wood that resists warping, and the laser cut tolerances keep the moving parts turning smoothly once the gear train is seated.

A cello music box works as a birthday or Christmas gift for cellists, string players, music teachers and orchestra fans, and the build itself suits anyone who already collects 3D wooden puzzles.
