Eight Planet Orrery You Crank By Hand
This mechanical orrery is a solar system model kit that puts all eight planets on geared arms around the sun. Turning the handle drives the gear train and every planet moves along its own orbit, so the finished orrery works as a demonstration instrument as well as a display model. No batteries or motor are involved.

How the Mechanical Orrery Works
- Hand crank drive: one handle turns the whole gear train, so the planets orbit at their own relative speeds without power
- Laser cut gearing: the wooden cogs are cut on a CO2 laser to a five micron tolerance, which is what keeps the meshing smooth
- Magnifying glass: a 25mm lens on the deluxe wooden model lets you read the fine detail engraved on the globe map
- Wave wheel activation: the escapement style wheel gives the crank its stepped, tactile feel as the planets advance
