Desktop Trebuchet that Launches Ping Pong Balls
The Ballistic Trebuchet is a working wooden model of a medieval siege engine, built from 158 laser cut plywood parts and standing 320 x 130 x 210 mm on a desk. A rubber band drives the throwing arm, so the model launches the five table tennis balls in the box without batteries or electronics.
How the Trebuchet Model Works
- Elastic drive: a tensioned band swings the long throwing arm, the same lever principle medieval engineers used with a counterweight
- Guide rail: the shaped barrel channel keeps each ping pong ball on a repeatable path so shots group tightly
- Adjustable release: changing the tension and the release stop alters range, which is the physics lesson built into the kit
- Trigger and winch: a hand wound cord and catch let you cock the arm and fire it in a controlled way
- Five balls included: the set ships with table tennis balls for indoor target practice at cups or paper targets
